American light tank M5A1 Stuart

Tank M5A1 “Stuart” was developed in 1941. It was mass-produced since 1942. It was in service with the US Army and was supplied to the USSR according to the Lend-Lease. Used in the battles of the Second World War.

Design features

The base is original.

The overall layout – power plant and transmission are located in the aft hull; rotation mechanisms – in the bow of the hull.

Armament – the gun is stabilized in a vertical plane and has an electro-hydraulic drive; telescopic sight.

Protection – body welded with a rational angle of inclination of the front sheet; a cylindrical tower with an elongated niche in the back; installed manual fire system.

Chassis – two V-shaped eight-cylinder liquid cooled engines connected in parallel; mechanical transmission; suspension blocked, spring; sprung steering wheel; a radio station operating in HF, VHF, tank intercom.

For the summer of 2017, the outdoor exposition was dismantled. Tank M5A1 Stuart transported to Patriot Park.
