Designed in 1965. It was mass-produced from 1966 to 1976. Consisted of the Soviet Army, the armies of the Warsaw Treaty countries. Used in battles in the Republic of Afghanistan.

General layout – the power plant is located at the rear.

Armament – a heavy machine gun of the Vladimirov system and a tank machine gun of the Kalashnikov system are paired and mounted in a turret; machine gun installation has a periscope sight and manual drive; vertical angle of fire from -5 “to +30”; the commander’s tank device was installed in place of the commander; night commanders and the driver are provided with night-time devices.

Protection – the machine has an enclosed load-bearing housing and a conical turret equipped with a supercharger and a filter-ventilation unit; body and turret are welded.

Chassis – similar to BTR-60P.
