Design features

Base – BMP-1.

General layout – upon conversion from BMP-1, a turret was removed, wings of BMP-2 were installed; the engine-transmission compartment is located in front, there is a coulter in the front of the housing; repair and evacuation equipment is located in the troop compartment.

Special equipment – traction winch of 6.5 tons (with a chain hoist of 19.5 tons); a lifting crane with a lifting capacity of 1.5 tons (with additional equipment up to 7 tons); welding equipment from a standard generator; semi-rigid towing device; cargo platform 1.5 tons; devices and special keys for repairs, as well as technical equipment for BMP.

Protection and chassis – similar to BMP-1.
