Designed in 1972. It has been mass-produced since 1973. It is in service with the Soviet Army and the armies of the Warsaw Treaty countries. Not used in battles (?).

Design features

Base – BMP-1

General layout – the engine-transmission compartment is located in front; additionally there are 3 work places for the officers.

Armament – the armament complex is equipped with a loading mechanism, an electric drive guidance, a combined (day-night) sight.

Special equipment – the machine is equipped with UK radio stations, intercom and switching equipment, as well as navigation equipment. Protection and chassis – similar to BMP-1.
